School-Based Services

With the ever increasing strain on school budgets and the unique issues that children and adolescents face today, Cummins offers school-based behavioral heath services that are delivered in the school setting. Because children and adolescents face issues unique to their ages and stages of development, Cummins has developed programs that can be provided in the school that specifically focus on these unique needs.

  • Assessment

Comprehensive assessments and evaluations assist youth and their identified family in establishing a school-based system of care. Individualized strengths-based services recognize the unique strengths, needs, and desires of the child/adolescent and his/her family in collaboration with the interdisciplinary treatment team. Assessments are performed in the school.

  • Group Services

Cummins offers a variety of therapeutic and skill building groups that include, but are not limited to the following topics: self-esteem, drugs & alcohol, tobacco, relationships, assertiveness, depression, impulse control, social skill building, and anger management.

  • Case Management

Care coordinators provide home and school-based case management and skill building services to children, adolescents, and their families. Case management services include assessing, coordinating, linking and accessing resources. Skill building services focus on increasing the child’s / adolescent’s and his/her family’s ability to improve skills in the areas of problem solving, conflict resolution, communication, focusing skills, leisure, and other activities of daily living. These services can be provided in the actual classroom setting with no disturbance to the class.

  • After School Program

This highly structured program incorporates a successful blend of intense outpatient group treatment methods. The program focuses on both mental health and substance abuse issues. Family participation and involvement is an integral part of the program. This program is similar to other group services but is of greater intensity. These groups are longer (2-3 hours per day) and are held more frequently (2-4 days per week).

Psychiatric Services

Cummins’ psychiatrists perform the initial psychiatric evaluation of the youth. Ongoing medical monitoring will also be performed.
