Behavioral Health Services for Teens

Cummins' mission is “To improve the lives of those we serve by providing exemplary behavioral health services.” Because children and adolescents face issues unique to their ages and stages of development, Cummins has developed programs that specifically focus on these unique needs.

  • Assessment and Evaluation

Comprehensive assessment and evaluation assist youth and their identified family in establishing a community-based system of care. Individualized strength-based service recognizes the unique strengths, needs and desires of the child/adolescent and his/her family in collaboration with the interdisciplinary treatment team. Services are community-based, building on strengths, natural supports, and resources of the family. The goal of child and adolescent services is to improve functioning in the areas of home, school, and community.

  • Community-Based Services

Individual and family service is provided in natural environments including the home, schools and physicians offices to meet the needs of those served. Community-based services are provided by child and family therapists and are generally short-term in nature. Long-term therapeutic treatment is available when needed.

  • Consultation and Education

Cummins provides professional consultation and a variety of educational programs to staff at various community-based agencies and schools.

  • Psychiatric Services

Cummins’ psychiatrists offer assessment, evaluation and monitoring of psychotropic medications for youth.

  • Outpatient Services

Individual, group and family therapy sessions are available with trained child and family therapists.

  • Case Management

Care coordinators provide home and community-based case management and skill building services to children, adolescents and their families. Case management services include assessing, coordinating, linking and accessing resources. Skill building services focus on increasing the child’s/adolescent’s and his/her family’s ability to improve skills in the areas of problem solving, conflict resolution, communication, leisure, and other activities of daily living.

  • Afterschool Program

This highly structured program incorporates a successful blend of intense outpatient treatment methods and the freedom to continue everyday functions, for example going to school and living at home. The program focuses on both mental health and substance abuse issues. Family participation and involvement is an integral part of the program.  The daytime and evening programs require participants to attend a three-hour group therapy meeting three times per week for four weeks or longer if clinically indicated.

  • Intensive Outpatient Program

The Intensive Outpatient Youth Program addresses behavioral, emotional, and substance related issues.  Family participation and involvement is strongly recommended.  The program meets for three hours per session three times each week for an average of four weeks.
